한국디자인학회 국제초대전 2015년 가을전시회에 출품한 '비발디의 가을(VIVALDI'S AUTUMN)'이 특별상(Special Prize)를 수상했습니다. 2016년 12월 16일 두성종이 갤러리에서 시상식이 열렸습니다.

작품의도

Data visualization은 이성과 감성, 기술과 예술이 결합되어 복잡하고 추상적인 정보를 직관적으로 이해할 수 있도록 돕는 분야이다. 음악은 청각의 예술이지만 음악적 경험을 시각적으로 변환하는 sound visualization은 음악을 시각의 영역으로 확장시킨다.

비발디가 상상한 가을의 모습은 어떤 느낌이었을까. 비발디의 '사계'는 사계절의 풍경을 묘사하고 있는 선구적인 표제음악이다. 추수를 마친 농촌의 풍경을 담은 '가을'의 테마를 현악 4중주로 편곡하여, 듣는 음악이 아닌 보는 음악을 만들어내였다. 각 악기의 음색에 맞는 색상으로 표현된 제 1 바이올린, 제 2 바이올린, 비올라, 첼로의 음역을 동시에 배치하고 각 음의 높낮이와 셈여림을 표시하여 눈으로 보는 것만으로도 마치 음악이 들리는 듯한 경험을 할 수 있다.

Data visualization helps people to understand abstract information intuitively through combining reason and emotion. Sound visualization as a branch of data visualization expands the musical experience from the auditory to the visual area.

What did Vivaldi imagine the autumn like? The Four Seasons is a frontier of program music describing the sceneries of each season. The 'harvest home' theme from the Autumn sketches the scene of a countryside after harvest. This visualization artwork expresses the notes of string quartet by color, size and position and it leads audience to experience listening to the music by seeing the music.
